COLONIE — A 64-year-old Caroga Lake man was killed being thrown from his motorcycle on Troy-Schenectady Road, police said.
According to police, Frederick Franko was eastbound near Spruce Street at around 7:41 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, when the crash occurred. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital by Colonie EMS where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to Lt. Robert Donnelly.
A witness interviewed at the scene said the motorcyclist appeared to be passing slower traffic on the right when he lost control of the motorcycle, hit a storm sewer grate and was thrown from the bike, according to Donnelly.
The Colonie Police Traffic Division is investigating the crash. The Colonie Police Unmanned Aerial Surveillance Unit utilized one of their drones to take overhead footage of the scene.
Both lanes of Troy-Schenectady Road were closed near Spruce Street for about 25 minutes.
Eastbound traffic was restricted to one lane for two hours until police cleared the scene.
