COLONIE — A 47-year-old Cohoes woman was killed when she swerved into oncoming traffic Route 9, hitting another vehicle head on.
At around 2:42 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, a 2004 Honda driven by Ivanna Komar was headed north between Turner and Burton lanes when, according to witness accounts given to police, it suddenly veered across the center lane and into southbound traffic.
She struck head on a 2017 Toyota driven by Meghaben Patel, 30, of East Greenbush.
When officers arrived, said Lt. Robert Donnelly, they found two vehicles with heavy front end damage blocking the entire roadway.
Colonie EMS and the Shaker Road-Loudonville Fire Department responded to the scene but Komar was pronounced dead at the scene.
Patel was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for evaluation of minor injuries.
Route 9 was closed in both directions and traffic was diverted for several hours between Osborne Road and Turner Lane.
The Colonie Police Drone Unit conducted aerial diagramming of the scene and the Colonie Police Traffic Safety Division is investigating the crash.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Traffic Division at 518-782-2620.
