COLONIE — A 51-year-old Rotterdam man was arrested on May 20 on a host of charges including assaulting an officer.

According to Lt. Robert Winn, officers responded to the Walmart on Loudon Road at around 7:23 a.m. for the complaint of someone trying to steal a 40-inch Samsung TV valued at $448, and damaging the security device while doing so.

Marc Rogers, who had a previous “no trespass” order for the store, exited prior to officers arriving but he was located in the parking lot in his car by Officer Joseph Parker.

Rogers was initially compliant, and was answering the officers questions, but then drove off, dragging Parker some 40 feet before exiting the parking lot.

Officer Michael Sbardella spotted Rogers’ car a short distance away but he initially refused to stop. Rogers was eventually pulled over behind the Lake Shore Apartments on Lake Shore Drive and attempted to flee on foot.

He did not get far before being captured by Sbardella.

Parker sustained lacerations, contusions and swelling to his knee but did join in the search for Rogers before being treated by Colonie EMS and staff at Memorial Hospital.

According to reports, Rogers is charged with the felonies of assault with intent to injure a police officer and burglary; the misdemeanors of petit larceny, reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing a police officer, resisting arrest, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and reckless driving and criminal mischief and he got a speeding ticket.

He was sent to the Albany County jail pending arraignment.
