I just read March 28, Spotlight article, page 7 on the Colonie landfill and I am stunned that it doesn’t mention people’s experiences of this landfill existing in our community.
Everyone complains over a large radius about the smell and effects of whatever it is we are breathing. Odor problem, yes. But not just as in unpleasant. Does the public know what they are breathing in that area? I, for one, live in Saratoga County but work in Cohoes so I must be quite regularly exposed when I get off and on Exit 8 of Northway and count on Route 9 that passes the landfill. I actually had some nights late fall and winter that caused me to feel sick after I had to cover my nose and mouth and hold breath for at least half a mile.
Then, I saw houses going up right across the road from the landfill. That is very strange to those that are just driving by and having to hold breath for an unreasonable distance.
Because everyone talks about this problem it is quite surprising that how the landfill is really impacting on people living in community and using roads surrounding the landfill is not mentioned in this Spotlight article.
