LATHAM — One person was killed and three others were injured in a three-car accident on Alternate Route 7 in Latham, Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Colonie and State police responded to an accident near the Miller Road overpass on Route 7 at approximately 6:45 p.m.
According to police, initial investigation has revealed that Jessica A. Bellerose, 41 , of Troy, was traveling eastbound on State Route 7 when her car hit another eastbound vehicle operated by Melanie J. Curtis, 38, of Halfmoon. This contact caused Bellerose’s vehicle to cross over the median into the westbound lanes of State Route 7 where she collided with two westbound vehicles operated by Jeffrey Gaul, 58, of Rensselaer, and Paige Ahearn, 18, of Waterford, said state police in a statement.
Ahearn was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in her car was taken to Albany Medical Center. Gaul was transported to Ellis Hospital with minor injuries. Curtis was not injured. Bellerose was transported to Albany Medical Center with a head injury.
The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, though police now suspect that alcohol might have been a factor in the crash. This post will be updated as the investigation continues.
