COLONIE – A body was recovered from a home at 9 Sebring Ave. after it was destroyed by fire on Friday, Sept. 16.
According to Lt. Todd Weiss, firefighters and police responded to the call of a structure fire at shortly before 2 p.m.
The home, located in the village not far from Central Avenue off of Vly Road, was fully involved when crews arrived.
The identification of the body has not yet been determined, but the homeowner is not yet accounted for at this time. An autopsy on the body is pending.
Neighbors reported hearing loud explosions and a number of media outlets are reporting the resident was an elderly woman who was using tanked oxygen to assist her breathing.
The Colonie Village Fire Company and firefighters from the Midway, Fuller Road, Verdoy, Stanford Heights and Shaker Road fire departments responded. Colonie police and Colonie EMS were also on the scene.
The Colonie Police Department is assisting Colonie Fire Services in investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
