COLONIE — An Albany County Jail inmate was arrested in connection with an assault on staff at the jail on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
According to the Albany County Sheriff’s Department, Drew Crowley, 41, of 968 Wendell Ave. in Schenectady, attacked Officer Matthew Richmond while Richmond was supervising a group of inmates participating in the Soldier On Program. Crowley allegedly kicked the officer in the ribcage, tackled him to the floor and pinned him to the ground. As Crowley prepared to continue the assault, the Soldier On inmates intervened and pulled him off the officer, securing him until additional officers arrived.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, Crowley was being held on burglary related charges and apparently became irate following a phone call. Crowley is not a participant in the Soldier On Program, and was only in the area of their housing unit to make a phone call.
Crowley was charged with second degree assault in Town of Colonie Court and remanded back to county jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
