Colonie- The cause of an accident on Central Avenue that left one teenager dead and two more badly injured early Sunday morning is still being investigated, according to police.
At approximately 2:51 a.m. on July 17, the vehicle in question went off Central Avenue and flipped over after it struck a utility pole. The car, a blue 2004 Ford Freestar, was traveling westbound on that road.
The driver, Akbar Perkins of Schenectady, 17 , was killed in the crash, police said.
Before the crash occurred, Schenectady police had attempted to stop the car due to the fact that it had been reported as stolen. Central Avenue was closed going both ways between Route 155 and Colonie Plaza because of the crash. The stretch of road was later reopened.
The other two car occupants were minors and are still at Albany Medical Center after being transported there by Colonie Emergency Medical Services, according to police.
