ALBANY — The Albany County District Attorney’s Office announced that Lakeram Jaipersaud, 29, of Colonie, was found guilty of one count of driving while intoxicated, a Class E felony, by a jury in Albany County Court Wednesday, July 13.
Colonie Police were conducting a traffic stop on another vehicle on Central Avenue on July 26, 2015, at approximately 1:43 a.m., when Jaipersaud approached in his vehicle and came to a screeching stop just short of the parked police cruiser. Officers observed an open container of alcohol in the front of the car when they approaches Jaipersaud’s vehicle. Jaipersaud failed several field sobriety tests and refused to consent to a chemical or blood test. Then, he vomited in the police cruiser as he was being transported for booking at the station.
Jaipersaud had two previous convictions for alcohol-related driving incidents. He was remanded into custody following the guilty verdict. He faces up to four years in state prison when he is sentenced on Sept. 16.
