Carve out time for fun
Join us Saturday, Oct. 28, from 2-4 p.m. for an all ages afternoon of pumpkin carving and decorating on the Green. We’ll supply the carving tools, plus bags to take home seeds. We’ll also have non-carving options for those who would prefer to avoid sharp objects. Bring your own pumpkin.
The write stuff
Do you know what NaNoWriMo means? It’s a catchy way of referring to National Novel Writing Month, which just happens to be in November.
The goal of NaNoWriMo is to create the first draft of a 50,000-word novel within the month. The library is here to encourage that creative enterprise by offering working and collaboration space in one of our meeting rooms for anyone taking up the NaNoWriMo challenge. Did you know that “Fangirl” by Rainbow Rowell and “The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern are just a couple of the many popular novels that came out of this challenge? Yours could be next!
We’ll be holding an all-ages prep session Sunday, Oct. 29, from 1-2:30 p.m. to get you ready to start writing. Information on NaNoWriMo, plot structure, character development, software, and writing prompts will be provided so you have all the tools to jump right in Nov. 1.
Stop by the library every Tuesday in November for a write-in session from 4-5:30 p.m. where you will join other would-be authors in this exciting literary pursuit. Take part in one or more sessions at your convenience; writing instruction is not provided. Visit nanowrimo.org for more details and tips for getting started.
Souped up recipe swap
The weather is getting cold, which means it’s time for comfort food — like soup! Share your favorite soup recipes for a chilly evening, and take home some new recipe inspiration at our Recipe Swap: Soup Edition Thursday, Nov. 2, at 6:30 p.m. Participants are welcome to bring samples of their recipes to share, but it is not required. If you are able to, please send the recipe(s) you plan to share to [email protected] before the day of the program. That way, copies for sharing can be printed out before the program begins.
