DELMAR — The Nathaniel Adams Blanchard Post 1040 will host a flag disposal ceremony at the Town of Bethlehem Fire Training Facility next Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
During these ceremonies, the Legion disposes of unserviceable flags per the instruction of the U.S. Flag Code. According to Cornell Law School, 4 U.S. Code § 8, section K, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
Lyle Maddock, commander of the Blanchard Post, said he looks forward to seeing a great turn out for the event. He stressed masks will be required and social distancing of 6 feet between each attendee will be enforced.
The Nathaniel Adams Blanchard Post 1040 supports and hosts veteran-centric events, including fundraisers, parades and dinners.
