BETHLEHEM — Six local firefighters, police and first responders were recognized by The Nathaniel Adams Blanchard Post 1040 of the American Legion during its 40th annual Community Recognition Awards ceremony on Monday, March 4 at 7 p.m.

Each volunteer fire department, volunteer ambulance service and the Bethlehem Police Department had to choose one of their own employees they would like to recognize as “Man or Woman of the Year” prior to the event and submit their name and a brief statement of why they feel qualified for the recognition.

The event, hosted by Post 1040 Cmdr. Lyle E. Maddock Sr. and held in its building on 16 West Poplar Dr. in Delmar., was free and open to the public.

The award recipients were as follows:

  • Lt. Jason Bradt, Delmar Fire Department
  • John Murphy, past president of Elsmere Fire Company
  • Company #2 Captain Shaun Wagner, Selkirk Fire Company
  • Lt. Barry Moss, Slingerlands Fire Department (not present at the awards)
  • Officer Rico Fiore, Bethlehem Police Department
  • Lt. Kristen Knights, Delmar-Bethlehem EMS
