ALBANY – A former bus driver with the Bethlehem Central School District was sentenced to two years in prison on Tuesday, Aug. 7, for promoting a sexual performance by a child.
David Haverly, 67, of Albany, was arrested on Feb. 22 for procuring “a digital photograph of a performance of a child in a sexual situation by utilizing an online chatroom,” on Nov. 12, 2016, according to District Attorney David Soares.
Officials do not believe Haverly, a bus driver with the district since 2006, had any inappropriate contact with children in his care.
The district immediately placed him on administrative leave.
His online activity triggered an alert to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and was reported to law enforcement. State Police made the arrest and also charged him with possessing kiddie porn.
A search warrant was executed and authorities found several other images and videos of kiddie porn. His guilty plea satisfies all charges, according to Soares.
Judge Peter Lynch also required Haverly serve 10 years of post-release supervision and register as a sex offender.
Assistant District Attorney Ariel Fallon of the Special Victims Unit prosecuted.
