DELMAR — The Delmar Fire District election ended up in favor of district Captain George Williams, by a vote of 132-123, after two (out of ten) affidavit votes were deemed invalid. Further investigation into the eight remaining votes was determined unnecessary by the Town Board of Elections, according to a spokesperson for the district.
The race for commissioner in the Delmar Fire District got heated at points, as a series of internal emails were circulated among members and district officers.
“I must say it is empowering to have run a positive, honest, and respectable campaign and to have come this close to a win,” said Heather Dorsey, Williams’ opponent. “This is testament that you can maintain your integrity even after being misrepresented by the opposition. I am also honored to have been backed by respectable and well-informed residents who are for the greater good of our community regardless of gender and departmental agendas. I consider this a win on many levels, especially as it was my first race, and for running a great race for a position which has never been seated by a woman since the department’s inception in 1911.”
