The Bethlehem boys and Colonie girls cross country teams swept their head-to-head match-ups in a Suburban Council dual meet with Shaker and Niskayuna Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Elm Avenue Park.
Bethlehem defeated Colonie 26-30, Niskayuna 25-31 and Shaker 26-31 in the boys race. Colonie beat Niskayuna 24-32 and Shaker 27-30, while Niskayuna beat Shaker 27-30.
Colonie’s Jake Johnson turned in the top time on the 5-kilometer course with a mark of 16:42.83. Shaker’s Paul Nichols was second with a time of 16:58.18, followed by Bethlehem’s Dawson Homer in third with a time of 17:04.41. Niskayuna’s Charles Ragone (fourth place, 17:44.82) and Bethlehem’s Derek Baranski (fifth, 18:08.42) rounded out the top five.
Colonie dominated the girls’ race, as it defeated Bethlehem 23-34, Niskayuna 15-47 and Shaker 17-43. Bethlehem beat Niskayuna 17-41 and Shaker 20-38, while Shaker edged Niskayuna 27-28.
Colonie’s Amanda Chambers finished first overall with a time of 19:56.63. Bethlehem’s Holly Machabee was second with a time of 20:23.10, while teammate Ruby Pan placed third with a time of 20:32.41. They were followed by Colonie’s Carolyn Pellegrini in fourth with a time of 20:47.00 and Marilyn O’Brien in fifth with a time of 20:48.16. Shaker’s Payton Czupil was sixth with a time of 21:04.17.
