Doghiker Author Talk and Book Signing

Happy trails…and tails!  We’re hosting an in-person book talk and signing with local author Alan Via on Thursday, June 30, at 6:30 p.m.  His trailblazing book, “Doghiker: Great Hikes with Dogs from the Adirondacks through the Catskills,” is more than a comprehensive guidebook detailing 77 outstanding places to hike; it’s also a dog owner’s operating manual and tool kit. Alan will cover key points of his book, then take us on a slideshow tour of gorgeous hiking scenery with canine companions.

“Doghiker” is a must-have NYS hiker’s manual, even if you don’t have a dog. Copies of the book, signed and personalized by the author, will be available for purchase. Please register on the Events tab of our website for this special event.

Early Primary Voting

GPL serves as one of seven polling places throughout Albany County for June primary voting.  Early voting for New York Governor and Lieutenant Governor runs through Sunday, June 26: Monday/Wednesday, noon to 8 p.m.; Tuesday / Thursday / Friday 9 a.m to 5 p.m.; Saturday /Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The primary election will be held Tuesday, June 28 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Local History Resources
GPL’s revamped Local History Room contains a wealth of materials related to the history of Guilderland and beyond, plus genealogical research resources.  These materials do not circulate (what happens in the Local History Room stays in the Local History Room).  We’re also seeking Guilderland High School Tawasenthan yearbooks from the following years to complete our collection: 1942, 1951, 1952, 1955, 2004, and 2014. Local History Room hours: Mon. Tues. Thurs. Fri. 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.; Wed. 1:00-5:00 p.m.; and by appointment. Contact: [email protected]

General Information
Overdue fines have been eliminated at GPL; patrons will be billed for the replacement cost of lost items. Curbside pick up is available with 24-hour notice.  Masks are optional.  Contact us at 518.456.2400 or [email protected]
