TROY — Local folk rock group Darling Valley will play to a Rockin’ on the River crowd next month, winning WVCR’s “Play to Play” contest.
“We are excited to announce the completed lineup this week with a great local addition, Darling Valley,” said Downtown Troy BID Interim Executive Director Katie Hammon. “The band impressed each of the judges with their authentic, rich sound.”
Rockin’ on the River is fast approaching with its opening show less that one week away. The Downtown Troy BID and WVCR announced the news Thursday, June 9. The band will play Rockin’ on the River on Wednesday, July 6 opening for Almost Queen, the Ultimate Queen Experience.
“We had so many quality recordings, that we had to meet after the broadcast to determine the winner,” said City of Troy Special Events Coordinator and WVCR DJ, Vito Ciccarelli, “WVCR and the Troy BID will continue to offer this opportunity for local musicians in the future.”
Darling Valley is a folk rock quartet showcasing the talents of TJ Foster, Lauren Foster, Ashleigh Whitfield, and Jordan Stewart. The band comprises of two married couples from upstate New York, and feature a unique blend of folk and indie-rock. Its diverse talent and variety of instruments come together to create a pretty, rich folk-pop sound with imaginative lyrics. The band has been featured in hit MTV dramas and other productions with previous name ‘Accents.’
Darling Valley’s appearance at Rockin’ on the River follows close on the heels of its June 24 album release of “Crooked Orchards.”
“We are so thankful to the Downtown Troy BID, WVCR 88.3, and the city of Troy for the opportunity to be a part of this year’s Rockin’ on the River concert series,” said Darling Valley member Jordan Stewart. “We can’t wait to perform for the crowd on July 6th!”
Rockin’ on the River is a free, 8-week outdoor concert series that gives live music fans an excuse to enjoy Troy on Wednesday nights this summer. The concerts are presented by the Downtown Troy BID and the City of Troy and will take place, Wednesdays, June 15 through August 3rd in Riverfront Park. The series begins on June 15 at 5:00 p.m. with headliner Start Making Sense, a 7-piece Talking Heads tribute band that takes pride in recreating all the music from the Talking Heads career. Opening the show will be the Troy Music Academy All-stars who are hardworking student musicians at the Troy Music Academy.
