ALBANY—Mayor Kathy Sheehan will host Albany’s annual holiday tree lighting ceremony at Academy Park on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event, held across the street from City Hall, serves as a festive kickoff to the holiday season and features activities for all ages.
The evening will begin with a concert at 5 p.m. by Albany High School’s Albanettes and Troubadours, offering seasonal music to set the mood. At 6 p.m., Mayor Sheehan, joined by members of the Albany Tulip Court and city officials, will light the holiday tree, the centerpiece of the celebration.
Attendees can enjoy complimentary take-home holiday craft bags and refreshments, including treats from Cider Belly Donuts, La Empanada Llama, and culinary creations by Albany High School’s Abrookin Center students. Winter Wonderland-themed photo opportunities will be set up throughout the park for visitors to capture festive memories.
Representatives from local organizations will also be present, providing information about their programs and upcoming events.
This family-friendly event is free and open to the public, welcoming residents and visitors alike to celebrate the spirit of the season in downtown Albany.
