Nicholas Sprague, who performs as Nbhd Nick, garners a global following yet is an enigma to the gatekeepers of the 518 scene.
The Albany-based artist was arguably the most noted talent left out of this spring’s award season. His blend of trap and hip-hop has gained appeal internationally, particularly in Germany where his 2020 hit “Add It Up” became a pandemic anthem, collecting nearly 20 million listens. He was busy last year, popping off more than 20 singles.
This year, he’s on a similar pace, having dropped a dozen singles to date, including his latest “Rodeo” last Friday. It quickly comes behind the heels of “Excuse Me,” a crunchy hype-up track that he released just a week before. Both deserve to be on your playlist. And if he’s left out next award season, that will be a crime against the local scene.
