SPOTTED: Pride and Alive at Five 2019

ALBANY — The Capital City kicked off its 30th Alive at Five summer concert series with Pride on Thursday, June 7, at Jennings Landing.

WEQX assembled a powerful three-band setlist that included Lauren Ruth Ward, LPX and headliner Donna Missal.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising event in New York City. The pivotal moment in launching the Gay Rights movement in 1969 was sparked by protests over constant police raids on a particular Greenwich Village bar that encouraged its patrons to openly express themselves. Albany Pride Week is highlighted by a weekend of events at Washington Park later this week.

Last night’s show consisted of three bands, each fronted by female artists. That fact was noticed by both LPX’s Lizzy Plapinger and headling act Donna Missal. Perhaps a poignant representation of the women’s suffrage movement that also started in New York state.

Afternoon rain clouds parted ways for a brilliant late spring sun. It allowed for the festivities to remain at the Jennings Landing stage where a good-sized crowd gathered for the show.
