The following correction regarding our recent story on Caffe Lena, The life and times of a landmark, was sent in by reader Barbara Benware Burt. Thank you Barbara.
While today’s article on Caffe Lena was interesting, I was jarred by the caption on the photo, stating it was taken in 1960. Don McLean would have been 15 years old in 1960. The photo could not have been taken before 1967, as that was the first time Don performed at the Caffe. I specifically remember because I was the cook at the Caffe at the time and recall wondering at first who this fellow was who was hanging around hours before show time. Obviously, in suggesting to him no one should be in the Caffe that early, we found out he was to be the performer that evening. Just wanted to set the record straight.
