According to Myla Kramer, of the town’s Office of Parks and Recreation and Community Affairs, one of the three judges for Clifton Idol will be Channel 10’s Paula Gretzinger. Another judge will be Sandy Roth, a former Town Board member, and a yet-to-be disclosed third judge.
Two age categories will compete in the sing off. The younger group will consist of 12 children between ages 6 and 12. From the older group, nine singers ranging from 13 to 18 will put their best notes forward for prizes.
Spectators can expect to hear songs such as “Someone Like You”from Adele, along with many tunes from other Broadway hits.The Clifton Park Community Chorus will perform inside Clifton Park Center at 11a.m. and the Clifton Park Idol singing contest will follow, starting at 11:45a.m.
The Saturday, Feb. 11, event will be taking place at locations around town, including at the Hilton Garden Inn at Clifton Park Center, where asoup tasting competition will be held.
Many categories will decided, including basic chicken vegetable, Baha Chicken Enchilada and Chicken Philly. Any kind of soup is eligible for competition, and several area restaurants such as Raven’s Wood, Belini’s and The 99.
The free “Taste of Clifton Park” best soup contest will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. While at the Hilton’s ballroom, visitors can stop by and listento the zany, foot-tapping music of The Zucchini Brothers.
“The best thing about WinterFest is being able to see all of ourneighbors. Everyone comes out for it, and it’s great,” said Kramer.
First place winners ofClifton Park Idol will receive prizes including a $100 gift card to Clifton Park Center. Winners will also sing at the Clifton Park July 4th concert. Second and third place winners will receive a prize, and all contestants will receive a WinterFest gift. Town Supervisor Phil Barrett is scheduled to present winners with their prizes.
Displays and demonstrations will be ongoing throughout the dayat Clifton Park Center by various community groups and Riverview Orchards will host events from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Elsewhere, members of the public are encouraged to tour Garnsey Park with Open Space Committee members Frank Berlin and Will Sproat. The pair will lead a tour starting at 10 a.m. at the water authority pump station on Route 146 across from Nott Road. Anyone wishing to take the tour should dressfor cold weather and bring snowshoes if there is deep snow.
