The Albany County Rail Trail project is taking another step forward with the recent award of two grants.
The Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy announced today that it’s been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Greenway Conservancy for the Hudson River Valley, Inc. It will be used to “develop a graphic and interpretive theme for the Albany County Rail Trail that incorporates the history of the rail line and its relationship to the communities it served.”
The grant will also fund the installation of other educational signage and amenities like benches.
A grant of $2,500 was also received from the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club, which will be used to purchase crushed stone to pave the path.
Though the Rail Trail corridor stretches from Albany to Voorheesville, right now only a 1.9-mile section is open for public use. The cost of making improvements to the trail, namely the repair of bridges, has stalled the opening of the entire length.
