ALBANY COUNTY Rachel Blow scored 22 points to lead Voorheesville to a 52-47 victory over Ichabod Crane in a Colonial Council girls basketball game Wednesday, Jan. 20.
The Blackbirds overcame an early 17-12 deficit to earn the victory over the Riders, who were led by Jillian Smollar’s 17-point performance.
Argyle eased past Loudonville Christian 56-30 in a non-league game. Katie Buck and Kaylee Wilson each poured in 20 points for the Scots, while Genevieve Swanson scored 10 points for the Eagles.
Hockey
Bethlehem broke open a close game with a two-goal third period to defeat Queensbury 5-2 in a Capital District High School Hockey League game.
Ned Engelbride scored the go-ahead goal midway through the second period, and Kellen Hagen and Mike Lemieux added third period goals to lead the Eagles. Lemieux also tallied twice in the first period to finish the evening with a hat trick.
Jake Edwards and Ryan Mosher had first period goals for Queensbury, and goaltender Teddy Nolan stopped 35 shots. Alex Breiner made 28 saves for Bethlehem.
Christian Brothers Academy struck for three goals in the second period to defeat LaSalle 5-2. Robby West paced the Brothers with a goal and three assists, and goaltender Justin Bryar stopped 22 shots.
Kevin Mainello and Ryan Murray tallied for LaSalle.
Daniel Cooper made 62 saves for Guilderland/Mohonasen/Scotia in a 7-0 loss to Shenendehowa in Clifton Park. Hayden Haldane had a hat trick and two assists for the Plainsmen.
Wrestling
Niskayuna defeated Bethlehem 58-30 in a Suburban Council wrestling match Jan. 20.
Anthony Laniewski (152 pounds), Eoghan Sweeney (160), Ben Gould (220) and Thomas Minahan (132) won by fall for the Silver Warriors. Rowan Braga (138), Rob Stagnitta (145), Anthony Canova (113) and Kyel Jacques (120) picked up victories for the Eagles.
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake eased past Colonie 59-22. Jake Kimble (99 pounds) picked up a pin for Colonie, while Jake Desanto (152) and Taylor Pfaff (160) won their bouts by technical falls.
