Basketball: Voorheesville boys roll along in Colonial Council by beating Ravena

ALBANY COUNTY The Voorheesville boys basketball team improved its record to 9-0 with a 65-51 Colonial Council victory over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Tuesday, Jan. 5.

Scott Glasheen poured in 30 points for the Blackbirds, who outscored the Indians 22-8 in the third quarter to break open a close game. Alex Giordano added 14 points for Voorheesville.

Michael Babcock netted 21 points for Ravena.

In another Colonial Council contest, Catholic Central held on for a 52-46 victory over Watervliet. The Crusaders built a 13-point halftime lead, only to see it shrink in the second half.

Terrence Jones had 16 points for CCHS, while Ty’Jon Gilmore led Watervliet with 25 points.

In the Suburban Council, Shaker cooled off Christian Brothers Academy 62-51. Chris Comproski scored 16 points, and Jayson Seiter contributed 14 points for the Blue Bison. Mike Wynn’s 18 points paced the Brothers.

Colonie knocked off Ballston Spa 65-49 behind 21 points from Bryce Waterman and 17 points from Isaiah Moll. Christian Leva and Josh Hipwell each scored 14 points for Ballston Spa.

Guilderland outscored Averill Park 31-13 in the second half to pull away for a 66-47 victory. Andrew Sischo had 23 points, and Michael Wine chipped in with 15 points for the Dutchmen. Isaiah Moak led Averill Park with 19 points.

Bethlehem defeated Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 63-37. Michael Ortale scored 12 points, and Luke Dole added 11 points for the Eagles, while John Clayton had nine points for the Spartans.

Girls basketball

Bethlehem had no trouble with Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake in a 75-12 Suburban Council girls basketball game Jan. 5.

The Lady Eagles received contributions from several players on their way to the convincing victory. Emily Wander led a balanced attack with 17 points.

Avery Pollard scored seven of BH-BL’s 12 points.

Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Colonie knocked off Ballston Spa 69-54, despite Jordan Hipwell’s 36-point night for the Scotties. Alivia Paeglow had 20 points, and Aliyah Wright added 16 points for Colonie.

Averill Park eased past Guilderland 52-36. Stephanie Jankovic and Samantha Laranjo each scored 14 points for Averill Park, while Olivia Bauman netted 13 points for Guilderland.

In the Colonial Council, Voorheesville downed Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk 53-34. Rachel Blow had 16 points, and Stephany Keenan contributed 13 points for the Blackbirds. Victoria Van Dyke led the Lady Indians with 10 points.

Catholic Central downed Watervliet 64-29. Emilie Benton and Abby Fountain scored 16 points apiece for the Crusaders, while Ali Changa’s 10 points paced the Cannoneers.

Loudonville Christian School defeated Doane Stuart 59-31 in a Central Hudson Valley League game. Mikayla Burnett netted 15 points for the Lady Eagles, while Chantel Burnett and Lesha Tenney each added 12 points. Molly Mathes guided Doane Stuart with 10 points.
