Girls basketball: Big third quarter propels Bethlehem past Averill Park

ALBANY COUNTY Bethlehem outscored Averill Park 24-11 in the third quarter on its way to a 67-52 victory Tuesday, Dec. 22, in a Suburban Council girls basketball game.

Juliana Okoniewski scored a game-high 23 points for the Lady Eagles, who clung to a 30-27 halftime lead before pulling away. Emily Wander contributed 13 points, while Jenna Giacone and Molly Kirby each added 11 points.

Kat Stackrow had 19 points for Averill Park.

Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Shaker downed Schenectady 68-24, Colonie defeated Mohonasen 60-41 and Guilderland blasted Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 68-10.

CeCe Mayo netted 22 points, and Shayla Sanford chipped in with 17 points to pace Shaker’s offense. Naseyah Dix scored 17 of Schenectady’s 24 points in the loss.

Erin Fouracre and Aliyah Wright each had 14 points for Colonie in its 19-point win against Mohonasen — a game that wasn’t decided until the Lady Raiders outscored the Mighty Warriors 16-4 in the fourth quarter. Earlashia Ricketts added 10 points for Colonie.

Mohonasen’s Saeeda Abdul-Aziz led all scorers with 19 points.

Guilderland went on a 35-2 run over the course of the second and third quarters to pull away from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. Olivia Bauman had 19 points, and Skye Lindsay added 14 points for the Lady Dutch.

In the Colonial Council, Watervliet bested Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk 37-24. Ali Changa scored 12 points, and Madison Soroka added 10 points for Watervliet.
