Emily Burns won the varsity girls large schools division race at the Guilderland Invitational cross country meet Saturday, Sept. 6, at Tawasentha Park. The Guilderland senior conquered the hilly 2.86-mile course in a time of 18:17.10 to finish well ahead of the pack. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s Emily Dingman was second with a time of 18:21.26, and BH-BL’s Janelle Rothacker placed third with a time of 18:23.90. BH-BL claimed the team title in the varsity girls large schools division with 33 points, while Guilderland settled for second place with 50 points. The Spartans placed four runners in the top 10, while the Lady Dutch had two runners in the top 10. Sarah Forman was Guilderland’s No. 2 runner with a sixth-place finish in a time of 18:38.65. Rebecca Micelli finished 12th with a time of 19:22.36, and Alyssa Jourdin placed 14th with a time of 19:31.15. Jennifer Hoffman (17th place, 19:45.10) rounded out Guilderland’s top five. In the varsity boys large schools division, Guilderland took fourth place with 91 points. Shenendehowa earned the team title with 43 points, followed by BH-BL in second place with 68 points and Collegiate in third place with 84 points. Sophomore Noah Carey led Guilderland with a third-place finish in a time of 15:06.09. Jonathon Feil (15th place, 16:21.30) and Jared Capuano (18th, 16:24.50) also cracked the top 20 for the Dutchmen. Collegiate’s Marco Pompilj earned the individual title in the varsity boys large schools race with a time of 14:36.72. In other cross country action, Voorheesville hosted its annual Blackbird Invitational Sept. 6 at Wallace Park. The Blackbirds took seventh place in the girls division with 160 points, and they placed eighth in the boys division with 194 points. Team titles went to Schalmont (girls) and Christian Brothers Academy (boys). Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk’s boys team finished seventh at the Blackbird Invitational with 141 points. Christian Carr led the Indians with an 11th place finish in a time of 19:11 over the 5-kilometer course.
