With the Section II wrestling championships coming up this weekend in Glens Falls, we want to know who you think is the best wrestler at any weight class from Albany County. Here are your five choices.
Wayne Burt (Colonie) — The No. 1 seed in the 220-pound weight class owns a 35-5 record this season and is coming off a first-period pin against Bethlehem’s Chris Tangora in the Division I Class I (formerly known as Class A) finals.
Golan Cohen (Colonie) — The lightweight is no lightweight, as he owns a 34-7 record against tough competition. He’s the No. 1 seed at 113 pounds after winning the Class I title with a convincing 9-0 victory over Saratoga’s Richard Schrade last weekend.
Josh LoGiudice (Guilderland) — Talented lightweights abound in Albany County, as LoGiudice sports a 31-0 record heading into Sectionals including his 3-0 victory over Columbia’s John Devine for the Class I 106-pound title.
Blake Retell (Shaker) — The senior earned his fifth class title by beating Bethlehem’s Tristan Canova 8-0 in the 126-pound finals last weekend. Now, he seeks another trip to states.
Chris Tangora (Bethlehem) — Before losing to Burt, Tangora was enjoying an undefeated season. The loss may have dropped Tangora to the No. 3 seed at Sectionals, but he’s still dangerous.
