The Shaker/Colonie hockey team earned a split at this weekend’s Lake Placid Tournament by beating Saranac 8-1 in Saturday’s second round at the Olympic Center.
The Jets (10-8-0) scored five times in the second period to pull away from Saranac. Brendon Closs netted the first two goals of the period, and Kevin Egan added the other three.
Egan finished the afternoon with five goals, and Jordan Vetrone added three assists for Shaker/Colonie. Goaltender Zach Dignum stopped 16 of the 17 shots he faced to post the victory.
The Jets began the tournament with a 1-0 loss to Middlebury Friday. Dignum stopped 13 shots and only allowed a second-period goal.
Shaker/Colonie returns to Capital District High School Hockey League action Tuesday when it hosts Bethlehem (6-11-1) at the Albany County Hockey Facility.
