The Shaker boys indoor track and field team finished third in Saturday’s Suburban Council Championships at the University at Albany’s SEFCU Arena.
The Blue Bison finished with 68 points, four points behind runner-up Shenendehowa. Saratoga Springs breezed to the team title with 121 points.
Jim-Michael David led Shaker’s effort with a pair of second-place finishes. Davis was the runner-up in the 55-meter hurdles finals with a time of 8.76 seconds, and he placed second in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 11.5 inches. Teammate Nick Phillips was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 10.5 inches.
Paul Nichols was second in the 3,200-meter race with a time of 10:06.60 for Shaker. Daniel Hausamann finished fourth with a time of 10:19.72, and Colonie’s Ryan Mulson placed sixth with a time of 10:27.85.
Ronnel Forde had a pair of top-six finishes for Shaker. Forde was second in the triple jump with a distance of 45 feet, 3.5 inches, and he took fourth place in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.98 seconds. Shaker’s Brian Guntharp finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 43 feet, 10 inches.
Lloyd Smalling added a third-place finish in the 300-meter dash for Shaker. Smalling finished with a time of 38.14 seconds.
In the relay events, Shaker was third in the 1,600 with a time of 3:43.49 and fifth in the 3,200 with a time of 8:41.53.
Shaker and Colonie had limited success on the girls’ side at the league meet. Colonie was sixth in the team standings with 27 points, while Shaker placed eighth with 21 points. Saratoga earned the team title with 119.75 point, 20 points ahead of Shen.
Colonie took first place in the girls 1,600-meter relay. The team of Mikeisha Kelly, Ronke Osipitan, Allyson Oertel and Tia Chaires finished with a time of 4:15.06, .16 seconds ahead of runner-up Bethlehem.
Kelly also scored a pair of top-six finishes for the Lady Raiders. She was second in the 300-meter dash with a time of 43.03 seconds, and she was sixth in the 55-meter dash finals with a time of 7.67 seconds. Marisa Sholtes added a fourth-place finish in the high jump when she cleared the bar at 4 feet, 10 inches.
Shannon Lavender led Shaker with a second-place performance in the 600-meter dash in a time of 1:41.03. Abigail Addo was third in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 11.75 inches, and Bethia Nivens finished fourth in the 300-meter dash with a time of 43.83 seconds.
Podlaski scores in race walk
In other indoor track news, Colonie’s Meaghan Podlaski placed third in the 1,500-meter race walk invitational at Saturday’s New Balance Games at the New York City Armory. Podlaski finished with a time of 7:28.50.
Kara Snyder finished fifth in the girls pole vault after clearing the bar at 11 feet, and the Colonie 3,200-meter relay team took sixth place with a time of 9:40.24 at the New Balance Games.
