The Guilderland boys basketball team ran away with last week’s poll question, as the Dutchmen garnered 92 percent of the vote as your choice for being Section II’s top team at this stage of the regular season. Now, we turn our attention to the race for the top Section II Class AA girls basketball team. Here are your four choices:
Albany — The Falcons haven’t missed a beat following the graduation of Emia Willlingham-Hurst, as the defending Sectional champs own a 6-0 Big 10 record and an overall mark of 10-1. Cara Waterson and Mylah Chandler are the top two scorers for Albany.
Bethlehem — The Lady Eagles (6-1, 8-1) are looking strong again in the Suburban Council South Division. The Giacone sisters (Gabby and Jenna) and Kaylee Rickert are guiding Bethlehem in the fight with Averill Park (9-0, 11-0) for the division lead.
Shaker — The Lady Bison (8-0, 9-0) took over sole possession of first place in the Suburban Council North Division with Tuesday’s 61-33 victory over Shenendehowa. Jenni Barra, Merrick Rowland, Becky Rossier and Sage VanAmerongen are among Shaker’s top scorers. (Side note: Shaker plays Bethlehem Friday in Delmar.)
Shenendehowa — Despite the loss to Shaker, the Plainsmen are a strong contender this year with Carly Boland and Sydney Brown leading the charge.
The poll will be open until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, so get voting.
