We’re less than halfway through the Section II basketball season, but several Class AA boys teams have stepped up as candidates for the Sectional title. Tell us which one you think right now has the best chance to win it all in early March.
Catholic Central — The Big 10-leading Crusaders just defeated Christian Brothers Academy 69-65 Tuesday in Colonie to remain undefeated. They have one of the top young players in the region in sophomore guard Anthony Mack.
CBA — Despite losses to Catholic Central and Troy this season, the Brothers are still a strong contender. After all, they’ve reached the Sectional finals 10 out of the last 11 years, and they have one of the best big men in the area in senior center Greig Stire.
Green Tech — It’s a little hard to know how good the Eagles are in comparison to the rest of the area because they play a lot of out-of-area teams as part of their independent schedule. But they made the Sectional finals last year, and they have a game-changing guard in Jamil Hood Jr.
Guilderland — The Dutchmen have yet to be truly challenged within the Suburban Council, as they’ve won every league game by double digits. It helps when you have one of the best-balanced starting lineups in the region.
Shaker — The Blue Bison’s two losses have been against Guilderland and Green Tech. Otherwise, they have looked as strong as ever in the Suburban Council North Division.
Voting in this week’s poll remains open until 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
