The Guilderland boys and girls indoor track teams earned victories in the first league meet of the season Saturday at Union College.
Guilderland squeaked out a 134.5-131 victory over Niskayuna in the boys’ meet, thanks to strong showings in the 300- and 600-meter dashes. The Dutchmen swept the top two places in each event, with Joseph Cornell winning the 300 dash over Xavier Flowers and Jonathon Feil edging Matthew Pasquali in the 600.
Cornell and Flowers teamed up with Preston Butler and Sean Murphy to win the 1,600-meter relay, and Harrison Bickmore added a victory in the high jump for Guilderland.
The girls meet was virtually as close as the boys meet, as Guilderland defeated Niskayuna 138-135. Six Guilderland athletes won individual events, led by victories from Emily Burns in the 1,500 and Alyssa Jourdin in the 3,000.
Liana Alford (45 dash), Abby Marco (50 hurdles), Lian Larson (triple jump) and Mary Jean Mulligan (shot put) also earned individual wins for the Lady Dutch.
