Shaker/Colonie hockey coach Steve Hudak believes his Jets can be a factor in the Capital District High School Hockey League again this season.
All that the Jets need is to find the type of quality goal scorers they had last season.
`I think we’re going to be a strong skating team,` said Hudak. `We may not have the type of scoring touch we had last year, but we have to see who will step up and fill those roles.`
Shaker/Colonie said good-bye to a sizable portion of its offense with the graduation of Sean Leach, Mike Mineau and Andrew Serafino. However, the Jets have several returning forwards including Jeff Bink, Jordan Vetrone, Kevin Egan and Steve Rehfuss.
Defensively, the Jets will be anchored by junior goaltender Zach Dignum, who is entering his third varsity season. Junior Joe Mineau and senior Mark Matson will be part of the rotation along the blue line.
Hudak said he’s hopeful the Jets will challenge defending state champion Saratoga Springs and Shenendehowa for first place in the CDHSHL’s Division I standings.
`Saratoga is not going to have the goaltending they’ve had in the past. And Shen, I don’t know who they’ll have in net,` said Hudak. `But both teams are going to be solid again this year.`
