The Shaker boys soccer team pulled out a 2-1 overtime victory over Ballston Spa Tuesday to set up a showdown with Shenendehowa Thursday for the Suburban Council North Division title and the top seed for the Section II Class AA playoffs.
Pat Mahoney scored the winning goal with less than two minutes left in the second overtime period to help the Blue Bison (13-2-0, 18 points) a half-point lead over Shen (12-2-1, 17.5 points) for the division lead entering their home game against the Plainsmen.
Ballston Spa (4-10-1, 8 points) grabbed a 1-0 lead on Connor Defillipis’ goal in the 62nd minute of regulation, but Shaker’s Sean Larkin scored with less than one minute left in regulation to tie the game at 1-1.
Girls soccer
Guilderland extended its winning streak to 11 games with Tuesday’s 3-0 Suburban Council South Division victory over Averill Park.
Rebecca Golderman scored twice, and Lauren Kogelmann added a goal and an assist for the Lady Dutch (14-1-0). Averill Park goaltender Kelly Donnelly made 11 saves in the loss.
Elsewhere, Colonie (5-9-1) ended a six-game losing streak by beating Mohonasen 2-1. Kaleigh Fowler scored both of the Lady Raiders’ goals in the second half, and goalie Courtney Yule made 15 saves.
Gabrielle Esposito tallied in the first half, and goalie Saeeda Abdul-Aziz stopped eight shots for Mohonasen.
Girls swimming
Guilderville improved its dual meet record to 6-2 with Tuesday’s 89-68 victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake in Burnt Hills.
Kelly Gao won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke to lead Guilderville. Caroline Conforti (50-yard freestyle) and Jane Sherwin (100-yard butterfly) also won individual races.
Meanwhile, Bethlehem fell to 0-6-1 in dual meets with Tuesday’s 96-90 loss to Ballston Spa. Leigha Kosakowski had victories in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke for the Lady Eagles.
Ally Federman (200-yard freestyle), Jana Bergere (200-yard individual medley) and Haley Goodrich (500-yard freestyle) added victories for Bethlehem.
Volleyball
Averill Park dropped the first set before beating Guilderland 3-1 in Tuesday’s Suburban Council girls volleyball match.
The Lady Dutch won the first set 25-21 before the Warriors swept the next three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-18.
Darina Relyea had eight blocks and five kills, and Jessica VanDoren added 23 assists for Guilderland.
In other Suburban Council volleyball action Tuesday, Shaker defeated Ballston Spa 3-1 in a girls match, while the Bethlehem boys team remained undefeated in league play with a three-set sweep of Columbia.
