The Shenendehowa boys volleyball team remained undefeated Monday, but the Plainsmen had to survive a five-set thriller against Shaker to do it.
The Blue Bison won the first set 25-20 before Shen (3-0) took the next two sets 25-20 and 25-23. After Shaker edged Shen 25-22 in the fourth set, the two teams went to extra points before the Plainsmen prevailed 27-25.
Scott Grable led a balanced Shen lineup with 13 kills, eight digs and three blocks. Logan Suguitan had 12 kills and 26 assists, Kolin Krebs contributed 11 kills, seven service aces and four digs, and Reid Hartl added 10 kills and 19 assists.
Jarrod Parowar paced Shaker with 14 kills, six blocks and six assists. Colin McClean had eight kills and 10 assists, and Keyshawn Gomes added six kills and six blocks.
Bethlehem (2-0) also remained undefeated in Suburban Council action with Monday’s 3-1 victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. The Eagles dropped the first set 25-16 before winning the next three 25-20, 25-23 and 25-16.
John Sica had 13 kills and nine blocks, Aaron Carrk contributed 12 kills and Kevin Mahar chipped in with 35 assists for Bethlehem. Sam Pelton’s 13 kills and Cody Pearce’s 27 assists paced BH-BL.
Field hockey
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake defeated Shaker 3-0 in Monday’s Suburban Council field hockey game in Latham. Nicole Beardsley had a goal and an assist for the Lady Spartans.
