Catherine Maloy turned in one of the top performances of the day at the Fleet Feet Lady Eagles Invitational Saturday in Bethlehem.
The Loudonville native and Academy of Holy Names senior set a meet record in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:39.63.
For Maloy, the annual all-girls track meet was a good warm-up for this weekend’s Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
“I wanted a nice shake-out race before the Penn Relays to build my confidence,” said Maloy.
Maloy is looking for a strong final high school season before going to Boston College in September.
“I visited a bunch of great ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) schools,” said Maloy. “The (Boston College) coach was really nice, and the girls really won me over. Plus, Boston is a great city.”
Maloy’s effort helped Holy Names place fourth in the large school team standings with 74 points. Bethlehem claimed the team title with 126 points, while Shaker finished second with 99 points.
Colonie was seventh with 68 points, but it had three individual champions and a first-place relay team. Allyson Oertel won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.23 seconds, Mikeisha Kelly took first place in the 200 dash with a time of 26.51 seconds and Kirsten Kaminski claimed the 1,000 title with a time of 1:36.75.
Oertel and Kelly also joined forces with Alicia Bousa and Immaline Peters to win the 800-meter relay title with a time of 1:49.11. Bousa contributed a second-place finish in the 400 dash with a time of 1:01.26.
Shaker’s best event was the distance medley relay. It’s A team of Maryanna Lansing, Shannon Lavender, Laura Libruk and Audrey Martino took first place with a time of 12:540.1, and its B team of Ellen Stockert, Emily Franko, Carlie Maxwell and Payton Czupil finished second with a time of 13:33.45.
Shaker also won the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay with a time of 4:18.69. Lansing, Kayleigh Lavender, Hannah Madison and Lauren Mahoney ran the sprint medley relay for the Blue Bison.
Besides the two relay victories, Shaker had several top-six finishes to propel it into second place. Madison Rowland led the way with a third-place finish in the high jump and a fourth-place performance in the 200-meter dash. Danielle McLean took third place in the triple jump, while Shannon Lavender was fourth in the 300 interme-diate hurdles and the 600.
Kayla Catafalmo was fourth in the 100-meter high hurdles and sixth in the triple jump, while Hannah Madison added fifth-place finishes in the 600 and the high jump for Shaker.
Shaker’s 800-meter relay team of Rowland, McLean, Mahoney and Katie Taggart placed third with a time of 1:51.95.
Julia Dyer (fourth place, long jump), Jackie Malecki (fifth, 1,000-meter race) and Amanda Chambers (fifth, 1,500) had top-six performances for Colonie.
