The Colonie girls basketball team recorded its biggest road win of the season by defeating Shenendehowa 56-41 in Friday’s Suburban Council game.
After trailing 14-12 in the first quarter, the Lady Raiders (3-2) went on an 18-8 run in the second quarter to pull ahead for good.
Marist-bound senior guard Sydnie Rosales led the charge with 25 points, while Nicole Riddick contributed 12 points. Alyx Gleason netted 18 points for Shen (3-1).
In other Suburban Council girls basketball action, Shaker overcame a slow start to beat Mohonasen 45-27 in Latham.
Madison Rowland scored 13 points for the Blue Bison (5-0), who led 7-5 after the first quarter and then pulled away. Lyric Artis chipped in with 10 points.
Kelsey Cowell led Mohonasen with nine points.
Boys basketball
Shen rallied for a 53-50 victory over Colonie in a Suburban Council boys basketball game Friday.
The Garnet Raiders held a 40-39 advantage going into the fourth quarter, but the Plainsmen limited Colonie to 10 points in the final eight minutes to earn the win.
Brandon Fischer had 15 points, and Drew Zlogar added 12 points for Shen. Jake Samuels’ 16 points paced Colonie.
In Delmar, Bethlehem raced out to a 22-9 lead and never looked back in beating Ballston Spa 90-39.
Connor Morelli drained five three-pointers on his way to a 22-point performance for the Eagles (5-0). John Sica contributed 12 points, and Nate Kane added 10 points.
Jeremy Mendrick netted 11 points, and Andrew Gentile chipped in with 10 points for Ballston Spa.
Hockey
Mike Minneau scored in overtime to give Shaker/Colonie a 3-2 Capital District High School Hockey League victory over Bethlehem Friday at the Albany County Hockey Facility.
Austin Scro put the Eagles ahead 1-0 less than three minutes into the second period, but goals from Sean Phillips and Kevin Egan gave the Jets a 2-1 lead. The score remained that way until R.J. Diego tallied with 2:04 left in the third period to tie the score at 2-2.
Zach Dignum made 13 saves for Shaker/Colonie, while Kevin Cooley stopped 25 shots for Bethlehem.
