The NHL might not be playing, but there is still plenty of hockey going on in our neck of the woods — especially at the high school level. And these four teams seem to be among the leading candidates to win the Capital District High School Hockey League’s Division 1 title.
Saratoga — The Blue Streaks have been impressive in both their league games (3-0-0) and their non-league games (2-1-1). Tyler Bullard (9-8-17) and Nick Winters (6-10-16) lead the offense, while goaltender Spencer Glaim (3-1-1, 2.50 GAA) has been stout for Saratoga.
Shaker/Colonie — The Jets (3-0-0 league, 4-1-1 overall) feature a balanced offense led by Jeff Bink (5-4-9) and Jordan Vetrone (3-6-9). Goaltender Zach Dignum (2.67 GAA) is also a contributor to Shaker/Colonie’s early success.
Shenendehowa — The Plainsmen (2-4-0) have struggled against some of the top teams in the state, but a 7-1 CDHSHL victory over Glens Falls should make anyone think twice before writing them off. Kyle Marr leads Shen with five goals.
Bethlehem — The Eagles (2-0-1, 3-3-1) are another team that has struggled when it has played outside of the league and soared when it has played against CDHSHL foes. Keep an eye out for Andrew Carroll (5 goals), RJ Diego (5 goals, 4 assists) and Chris Caswell (4 goals, 5 assists).
