Christian Brothers Academy and Mamaroneck advanced to Saturday’s final at the Albany County Holiday Hockey Tournament at the county rink in Colonie.
CBA tied Shaker/Colonie 4-4 and advanced on penalty shots in its opening-round game Friday, while Mamaroneck edged Bethlehem in overtime 5-4.
CBA (0-0-1) took a 3-1 lead on second-period goals by John Bassett, Liam Glennon and Zach Swanteck, but Mike Minneau tallied with seven seconds left in the period to get S/C (0-0-1) close. Sean Phillips scored less than one minute into the third period to pull the Jets even at 3-3.
Chase Crawford’s goal with 10:52 left in the third period put CBA back in front before Minneau struck for his third marker of the game with 34 seconds left in regulation for S/C. The two teams played a scoreless overtime period, which led to penalty shots. The Brothers outscored the Jets 5-4 to advance.
In the early game, Bethlehem (0-1-0) tied the score at 4-4 on RJ Diego’s goal midway through the third period, but Mamaroneck (1-0-0) scored 1:29 into overtime to pull out the victory.
Diego had two goals, while Chris Caswell and Andrew Carroll contributed goals for the Eagles. Goaltender Kevin Cooley made 31 saves.
Bethlehem meets S/C in Saturday morning’s consolation game, while CBA and Mamaroneck face off for the tournament title at 12:30 p.m.
