The Shenendehowa boys soccer team wrapped up its Suburban Council season by defeating North Division rival Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 4-0 Monday.
After playing eight consecutive games decided by one goal, Shen’s offense came to life against BH-BL (7-7-2). The Plainsmen (12-2-2) scored three times in the second half to break open a close game.
Chris Schmid had a goal and an assist for Shen, which locked up the Suburban Council’s No. 2 seed for the Section II Class AA playoffs with the win. Austin Hughes, Nick Martin and Josh Barlow also tallied.
Goaltender Curtis Souza made two saves for BH-BL.
In other Suburban Council action, Shaker (6-9-1) maintained its hold on the league’s No. 5 seed for Sectionals by beating Niskayuna 2-1.
Jackson DuMont and Guus Reefman scored in the first half to give the Blue Bison a 2-0 halftime lead. Joe Repicky tallied on a free kick midway through the second half to get the Silver Warriors (10-4-2) within a goal, but Shaker’s defense kept Niskayuna off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Shaker goalie Tommy Macutek had six saves, while Niskayuna netminder Taylor Tear stopped eight shots.
Girls soccer
Guilderland clinched the Suburban Council South Division title by pulling out a 2-1 victory over Colonie in Monday’s girls soccer game.
Jessica Capone scored in the second half off a pass from Sarah Kogelman to give the Lady Dutch (12-3-1) the victory and the division title. Emma Oliver tallied in the first half for Guilderland, while Alexis Eddy had Colonie’s first-half goal.
Guilderland had a 9-4 advantage in shots and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks over Colonie (1-13-0).
Girls volleyball
The Guilderland girls volleyball team wrapped up a 15-1 Suburban Council season by beating Colonie 3-1 Monday.
After splitting the first two sets, the Lady Dutch took control by winning the last two sets 26-24 and 25-16. Guilderland took the first set 25-22, and Colonie (6-10) won the second set 25-18.
Allison VanDoren led the Lady Dutch with 16 kills, 12 service points with three aces and 12 digs. Quincy Kinzel contributed seven kills, seven service points and 16 assists, and Kayla Myers added three blocks.
Julia Dyer paced Colonie with six kills, 10 service points and two blocks, while Stephanie Reinhardt added three kills, three assists and one ace.
In another Suburban Council match, Shaker defeated Niskayuna 3-2 in Latham. The Blue Bison took the final set 25-18 after splitting the first four sets.
Niskayuna won the first set 25-22 before Shaker grabbed the next two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-11. The Silver Warriors forced a fifth set by winning the fourth set 25-22.
Field hockey
Scotia-Glenville won its play-in game by beating Gloversville 3-1 in Section II Class B field hockey action Monday.
Alexis Marcucci, Taylor Santabarbara and Molly Kalasinski tallied for the Lady Tartans, who advance to face top-seeded Johnstown in Wednesday’s quarterfinal game.
