Michael Law’s second-half goal helped the Niskayuna boys soccer team defeat Shenendehowa 1-0 in Tuesday’s Suburban Council North Division game. The win moved the Silver Warriors (8-2-1, 12 points) move one standings point closer to the first-place Plainsmen (8-2-2, 14 points) in the division standings with five games left in their regular season. Taylor Tear stopped four shots for Niskayuna, while Shen goaltenders Dan Juers and Justin Rohrwasser combined to make two saves. In other Suburban Council boys soccer action Tuesday, Ballston Spa (4-6-2, 7.5 points) closed in on third-place Shaker with a 2-1 victory. Niskayuna (12-0-0) moved one step closer to winning the Suburban Council North Division title by beating Shenendehowa 2-0 in a girls soccer game Tuesday. Meghan Doyle and Hannah Munro tallied late in the first half to give the Silver Warriors the lead. Goaltender Kristen Hartlage stopped three shots to pick up the shutout. Makala Foley had eight saves for the Plainswomen (8-2-2).
Elsewhere, Bethlehem goalie Katie Nickles earned her 40th career shutout as the Lady Eagles (8-3-1) defeated Averill Park 1-0 in a Suburban Council South Division game. Tara Teal tallied the lone goal for Bethlehem.
Guilderland (8-3-1) remained tied with Bethlehem for the South Division lead following a 3-1 victory over Columbia. Jess Capone scored two goals and assisted on Laurie Knapp’s goal for the Lady Dutch.
Kylee Arno tallied for Columbia, and goaltender Jessica Schafer stopped 12 shots.
Girls volleyball
Guilderland rebounded from last Thursday’s loss to Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake by beating Columbia 3-0 in Tuesday’s Suburban Council girls volleyball match. Allison VanDoren had 12 kills and six digs for the Lady Dutch (10-1), who won by scores of 25-23, 25-17 and 25-22. Quincy Kinzel contributed eight digs, seven kills and nine assists. In other girls volleyball action, Shaker swept Ballston Spa by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-15.
Field hockey
Scotia-Glenville posted a 4-1 victory over Hudson Falls in Tuesday’s Foothills Council field hockey game. Taylor Santabarbara scored twice for the Lady Tartans, while Alexis Marcucci and Amanda Kot added goals. Courtney Arlington tallied for Hudson Falls, and goaltender Nicole Wojtowecz made 15 saves.
