Anka Parzych scored twice to lead the Niskayuna girls soccer team past Shaker 4-1 in Thursday’s Suburban Council North Division game.
Parzych’s first goal came in the 15th minute to put the Silver Warriors (9-0-0) in front. Liz Farley tallied four minutes later, and Meghan Doyle added her 14th goal of the season in the 28th minute to increase Niskayuna’s advantage to 3-0.
Kate Essepian scored with six minutes left in the second half for Shaker, but Parzych tallied a minute later to produce the winning margin for Niskayuna.
Niskayuna goaltender Kristen Hartlage had eight saves, while Shaker netminder Gabby Cotugno stopped 11 shots.
In Suburban Council South Division action, Guilderland shut out Colonie 3-0, while Columbia tied Bethlehem 2-2.
Emma Oliver scored Guilderland’s first goal less than three minutes into the first half. Ali Cardinal and Jessica Capone then tallied 28 seconds apart early in the second half to triple the Lady Dutch advantage.
Jenna Cubello made six saves to earn the shutout for Guilderland. Colonie netminder Courtney Yule stopped 10 shots.
Bethlehem had a 2-1 halftime lead against Columbia on a pair of Tara Teal goals, but Amanda DeBarr’s second-half marker allowed the Blue Devils to escape with a tie.
Opposing goaltenders Katie Nickles (Bethlehem) and Jessica Schafer (Columbia) each stopped 11 shots in regulation and overtime.
Boys soccer
Ballston Spa picked up a 2-0 victory over Route 50 rival Saratoga Springs in Thursday’s Suburban Council North Division boys soccer game.
Nolan Kelly scored off a direct kick in the first half, and Luke Bush added a second-half goal for the Scotties.
Girls swimming
Ballston Spa improved its dual meet record to 6-1 with Thursday’s 97-88 Suburban Council girls swimming victory over Bethlehem.
Paris Walkowiak won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly for the Scotties. Kristina Keefe contributed a victory in the 100-yard backstroke.
Grace Ayer and Lauren Zemering each won a pair of individual events for Bethlehem. Ayer finished first in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke, while Zemering won the 50- and 100-yard freestyles.
Annie Burdick (diving) and Haley Goodrich (500-yard freestyle) also won individual events for the Lady Eagles.
Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Niskayuna eased past Shaker 101-77 in Latham. Maggie Wyngowski and Anna Vitolins each earned a pair of individual victories to lead the Silver Warriors. Wyngowski finished first in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles, while Vitolins won the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.
Bryn Becker contributed a victory in diving, and Grace Matuszyk added a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle for Niskayuna.
Talia Sternbach had victories in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke for Shaker.
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake also had an impressive victory, as the Lady Spartans defeated Guilderville 105-81 in Voorheesville.
Six BH-BL swimmers won individual events, led by Sara Swett’s victories in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles. Gabriella Marchetti (200-yard individual medley), Lauren Katz (diving), Shawna Weaver (100-yard butterfly), Gabrielle Rotunda (100-yard freestyle) and Meghan Pettit (100-yard breastrstroke) also earned victories.
Kelly Gao led Guilderville with wins in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke.
Golf
Saratoga Central Catholic took the team title at Thursday’s Western Athletic Conference Golf Tournament at Schenectady’s Stadium Golf Course.
Drew Welcome led the Saints with a 6-over-par 77 to claim the individual title, as Saratoga Catholic finished with a team score of 347. Nick Oda was third overall with an 18-hole score of 84.
Girls volleyball
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake improved its record to 9-0 with Thursday’s Suburban Council girls volleyball win over Shenendehowa.
Kathleen Schurman recorded 13 kills, and Siena Wilder added seven aces and 22 digs for the Lady Spartans.
Brooke Lane had four kills and 14 digs for Shen (7-2). Hayley Macken contributed 18 assists and seven digs.
