The Niskayuna girls soccer team scored both of its goals in the second half to defeat Saratoga Springs 2-0 in Monday’s Suburban Council North Division game.
Meghan Doyle scored off a pass from Jenny Cascino 17 minutes into the second half, and Anka Parzych added a goal with less than nine minutes left to seal the Silver Warriors’ victory.
Niskayuna goaltender Kristen Hartlage stopped six shots, while Saratoga goalie Carly Slade made nine saves.
In other Suburban Council North Division action, Kristen Conners’ first-half goal helped Shenendehowa defeat Shaker 1-0.
Makala Foley made nine saves in goal for the Plainswomen, while Shaker netminder Gabby Cotugno turned away nine shots.
In the Suburban Council South Division, Colonie picked up its first victory of the season by edging Columbia 1-0.
Alexis Eddy scored the lone goal of the game with 23 minutes left in the second half, and goalie Courtney Yule stopped 14 shots for the Lady Raiders. Jessica Shafer had 10 saves for Columbia.
Bethlehem ended a two-game losing streak by edging Mohonasen 1-0 in another Suburban Council South Division contest.
Abby Seymour tallied in the first half, and goaltender Katie Nickles made the lead stand by stopping three shots for the Lady Eagles, who fell to Shen and Saratoga last week.
Saeeda Abdul-Aziz turned aside nine shots for Mohonasen.
Boys soccer
Shen shook off the effects of Saturday’s 1-1 tie against Bethlehem by shutting out Shaker 1-0 in Monday’s Suburban Council North Division boys soccer game.
Phil Barrett scored off a James Homan assist in the second half for the Plainsmen. Goaltenders Danny Juers (Shen) and Thomas Macutek (Shaker) each had five saves.
Elsewhere, Niskayuna scored all of its goals in the second half en route to a 3-0 victory over Saratoga Springs.
Christian Koudal, Scott Fishel and Luke Faranda tallied for the Silver Warriors.
Ballston Spa and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake ended their Route 50 rivalry game in a 1-1 draw.
Ryan Capron scored a first-half goal for the Spartans, and Nolan Kelly netted the equalizer for the Scotties.
Girls volleyball
Undefeated Guilderland received a tough match from Averill Park before prevailing 3-1 in Monday’s Suburban Council girls volleyball game.
The Lady Dutch (8-0) edged the Warriors 25-22 in the first set before winning the second set 25-12. Averill Park took the third set 25-19, but Guilderland prevailed 25-10 in the final set to seal the victory.
Quincy Kinzel led the Lady Dutch with nine kills and 17 service points, including five aces. Allison VanDoren contributed five kills and 17 service points with four aces, and Taylor Litwin added five blocks, three kills and 11 service points with two aces.
Andrea Debolli led Averill Park’s defensive effort with 34 digs, while Sarah Caruso and Kate Ludder each contributed four kills.
In other Suburban Council action, Shen defeated Shaker 3-1 in Latham. The Plainswomen won the first two sets 25-11 and 25-17 before the Blue Bison took the third set 25-17. Shen closed out the match with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set.
