The Shenendehowa boys soccer team tuned up for Saturday’s Suburban Council battle against Bethlehem by beating Mohonasen 2-0 Thursday in Rotterdam.
Chris Schmid scored twice for the Plainsmen (5-0-1), and goaltender Justin Rohrwasser stopped three shots.
Mohonasen goaltender Alex Volans made four saves.
In other Suburban Council boys soccer action, Niskayuna defeated Averill Park 2-0 on the road.
Phil Weeber and Jacques Fair tallied for the Silver Warriors. Weeber headed home Joe Repicky’s corner kick in the first half, and Fair scored off a pass by Repicky in the second half.
Girls soccer
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake scored five unanswered goals to defeat Colonie 6-1 in Thursday’s Suburban Council girls soccer game.
Emily Green’s goal midway through the first half tied the score at 1-1 for Colonie, but Krissy Bikowitz tallied with less than seven minutes remaining before halftime to give BH-BL a 2-1 lead. Morgan Burchhardt then scored twice in the first 20 minutes of the second half to expand the Lady Spartans’ lead to 4-1.
Skye Kaler, Alyssa Hughes and Emily Ankabrandt also scored for BH-BL, and goaltender Florie Comley made seven saves. Colonie goaltender Courtney Yule stopped 15 shots.
In other girls soccer action, Niskayuna eased past Averill Park 6-0 Thursday. Meghan Doyle had a hat trick, and Anka Parzych contributed a goal and two assists for the Silver Warriors. Liz Farley added a pair of second-half goals.
Girls swimming
Ballston Spa pulled away in the final event to edge Guilderville 97-89 in Thursday’s Suburban Council girls swim meet.
The Scotties won the 400-yard freestyle relay to gain the points they needed to fend off Guilderville.
Paris Walkowiak and Alyssa Gardiner each won two individual events for Ballston Spa. Walkowiak finished first in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, while Gardiner won the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle.
Kelly Gao won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke for Guilderville. Kathryn Liotta (diving), Erin Callahan (100-yard freestyle) and Nicole Das (100-yard breaststroke) also earned victories.
In another close Suburban Council swim meet, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake edged Bethlehem 95-91. Sara Swett led the Lady Spartans with victories in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles, while Meghan Pettit (200-yard individual medley), Lauren Katz (diving) and Christy Brown (100-yard backstroke) contributed individual victories.
Grace Ayer finished first in the 50-yard freetyle and the 100-yard breaststroke for Bethlehem. Kelsey Bohl (100-yard butterly) and Lauren Zemering (100-yard freestyle) also had individual wins.
Girls tennis
Shaker swept Columbia 9-0 in Thursday’s Suburban Council girls tennis match in Latham.
Mia Fallati, Elizabeth Sneeringer, Nicoler Cocca, Skylar Luu, Bettina Lu and Emily Zhang all won singles matches in straight sets for the Blue Bison.
The Shaker girls volleyball team also posted a straight-set victory over Columbia Thursday. Shaker defeated Columbia 25-18, 25-22 and 25-19.
Golf
Three players recorded nine-hole scores of 42 to lead Saratoga Central Catholic past Galway 14.5-0.5 in Thursday’s Western Athletic Conference golf match.
Drew Welcome, Kayla Szekely and Dylan Seeber led the Saints with their 42s, while Dan Diaz paced Galway with a 47.
