The Niskayuna girls soccer team gained an early edge in the Suburban Council North Division by beating Shenendehowa 3-1 in Tuesday’s season opener in Niskayuna.
Anka Parzych scored twice off feeds from Hailey Golub to help the Silver Warriors win their first of two meetings with the Plainswomen. Meghan Doyle tallied the other Niskayuna goal.
Kristen Connors scored Shen’s lone goal, and goaltender Makayla Foley made nine saves.
In other Suburban Council action Tuesday, defending Section II Class AA champion Bethlehem had no trouble with Averill Park in an 8-0 win. The Lady Eagles scored six times in the first half on their way to a season-opening blowout.
Tara Teal struck for four goals, Samantha Link tallied twice and Katherine Dority added three assists for Bethlehem. Goaltenders Katie Nickles and Emily Venezia combined for four saves in the shutout.
Guilderland had no trouble with Columbia in its season opener Tuesday, as the Lady Dutch cruised to a 4-1 victory.
Kara Carmen had a goal and two assists to lead the defending Suburban Council South Division champion Lady Dutch. Lauren Kogelman, Jess Capone and Laurie Knapp also scored.
