COLONIE — The Raiders lost a heartbreaker to Burnt Hills Ballston Lake before bouncing back and beating Niskayuna in what is shaping up to be a hotly contested Suburban Council race headed into the last two weeks of the season.
Against Burnt Hills, Colonie had a 4-3 lead after five but the Spartans tied it up in the sixth and then scored two runs in the top of the seventh on the second home run of the day by Lily Haluska for a 7-5 win.
For Colonie, junior Taylor Quinn went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Sophia Currao, Gabrielle Baumann and Adrianna Laraway each went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Haluska went 2 for 3 with two home runs and two RBIs while Cianna Benamati went 2 for 4 with an RBI for BHBL.
A day after the Thursday, April 28 loss to BHBL, Colonie turned around and trounced Niskayuna 11-1.
Lauren Cosselman went 2 for 3 for the Raiders while Baumann and Currao had three RBIs each and Abby Hacker had two RBIs.
On the mound Cosselman went six innings, giving up just two hits while striking out 11.
Colonie will play at Bethlehem this afternoon, Monday, May 2, and will host Saratoga on Wednesday, May 4 and then travel to Shaker on Friday, May 6.
