COLONIE — The boys soccer team won their season opener by getting by Averill Park 1-0 on Saturday, Oct. 3.
Zachary Fruiterman scored the game’s lone goal at the 3:35 mark of the first half at Colonie High. Tyler Schwank had the shut out in goal for the Raiders, having to stop stop only two shots as Colonie dominated the game, taking nine shots on the Averill Park keeper.
It was opening day for Suburban Council boys and girls soccer, sans Bethlehem and Ballston Spa who opted to hold off playing until next spring. Other leagues in Section II also kicked off the season on Saturday, with some leagues and teams are opting to wait for what is dubbed Fall Season II in March, when football and volleyball teams are slated to compete.
Because of COVID-19, only two spectators per player were allowed inside the gate at any of the games across all of Section II and players and fans were expected to wear masks at all times.
Colonie will play at Columbia on Tuesday, Oct. 6, and then play at Burnt Hills on Saturday, Oct. 11.
