SPOTTED: Voorheesville keeps composure, beats Hoosic Valley in Class C action
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

VOORHEESVILLE — At times it looked like a hockey game, complete with body checks and cheap shots, but in the end the more skilled Blackbirds prevailed in a Class C Section II basketball game with a 62-45 win over Hoosic Valley.

The No. 1 seed Voorheesville boys jumped out to a 15-5 lead after the first quarter and took a 27-14 lead into the half.

In the second half, No. 16 seed Hoosic Valley started getting physical and twice cut the lead to six in front of a large and loud crowd with supporters on both sides.

Voorheesville, though, kept its composure down the stretch and used its speed and some key jumpers to finish the game.

The Blackbirds, of the Colonial Council, will now play the No. 9 seed Rensselaer — which upset the No. 8 seed Hadley Luzerne 67-62 — on Friday, Feb. 28 at Hudson Valley Community College. The tip is slated for 5 p.m.

Against Hoosic Valley, of the Wasaren League, Voorheesville’s Zaveon Little led all scorers with 23 while Anthony Puma had 19 and Matt Piccini had 12. Tyler Eddy had 14 for Hoosic Valley.
