COLONIE — A day after the Garnet Raider boys basketball team claimed town bragging rights, the girls beat Shaker 60-47 in a rough and tumble Suburban Council matchup that was closer than the score indicates.
Colonie jumped out to a 15-6 lead after one and took a 30-17 lead into the half. But, Shaker made a run in the fourth quarter to come within six points until the clock forced them to foul.
Colonie senior standout Ahnalese Pearson led all scorers with 15 while Makayla Blake and Marcie Trimarchi had 13 each. Jayla Taylor chipped in nine and Sareena DiCerbo had six for Colonie.
Jules DeBeatham had 12 for Shaker, while Kaelah Carter had 10 and Kathleenjoy Gordon had nine.
Colonie is 4-0 and in Suburban Council play and is one of three undefeated teams in the competitive Blue Division along with Shen and Saratoga. Shaker is 1-2 in the same division.
On Tuesday, Jan. 7 Shaker will host Saratoga and Colonie will host Schenectady.
